The Design Process
From imagination to reality
nce you have decided that you wish to employ
TulipTree in the re-design of your garden we
can set the design process in motion.
We arrange to visit you and listen carefully to your
feelings about the site and how you would like your
ideal garden to look and function.
We will talk with you about the sorts of gardens that
you enjoy and how you see your garden fitting in with
your lifestyle. We can discuss our previous projects
with you and the all-important issue of budget. If
clients have already thought carefully about certain
things which they would like to be included in their
new garden, whether they wish to light the garden at
night, install irrigation for plants etc it helps greatly.
Some clients make ‘mood boards’ and gather
together photographs from magazines, books and
their travels in order to illustrate their preferences.
These can prove extremely helpful in the early
planning stages.
We will take careful measurements, and if necessary,
levels, of the garden which will then enable us to
draw up a scale plan. At this point the designer
usually goes away to formulate the initial design
ideas, make sketches and working drawings. There is
then a second meeting in which these ideas are
discussed and a final design decided upon.
To help you to visualize how the garden will look on
completion, sketches, models or photoshop
impressions may be used by the designer.
We will then present you with a spiral bound portfolio
of design ideas and drawings along with the final
design which is bespoke and hand-drawn, not
computer generated.

This can then be given to the landscaper of your
choice or the work could be taken on by yourselves.
Most of our gardens are built by local hard
landscaping companies with whom we have forged
strong working relationships.
Usually clients ask us to come back on site at the
build stage and oversee the setting-out and
construction of the new garden. This works well as it
ensures that the initial design vision is adhered to
and the materials specified in the design are used.
All of the gardens on this website have been
subsequently planted by ourselves once the hard-
landscaping (walls, paving, decking etc) had been
put in place.
Whats the Cost?
Prices range from £350.00 to £700.00 for a full
domestic garden design package.
Reductions in the cost of your planting package
may be made if you have first employed us to
produce a design.
Exact design cost will depend on the size of your
garden, slope, and complexity of your requirements,
which can be discussed at the initial meeting with
the designer.
