At
BBC
Gardeners’ World Live this year we worked in partnership
with Tracy Foster
Garden Design to create a fantasy jungle garden based
on the paintings of Henri Rousseau. The garden was awarded
the coveted RHS Gold Medal and Best Small Garden in Show.
Built in only two days
in the interior space of the NEC Birmingham, this was a small
courtyard space which would translate well into any small
garden to create a dreamy retreat filled with lush exotic
looking plants. Animals could be spotted lurking in the undergrowth,
reflecting Rousseau’s work.

The entrance to the garden was through a fantastical iron
archway designed by sculptor Jules Whiston. His work was featured
elsewhere in the garden with ball-topped iron plant supports.
The paving, a beautiful mellow stone was supplied
by Sundowners ROC Ltd. It formed the floor of the intimate
courtyard space and perfectly complimented Caroline Pollard’s
pebble mosaic work at its centre.

Raised wooden beds were supplied by Timberscapes
and finished with Johnstones’s Rosewood stain. The seat
came from Lloyd Loom of Spalding.
The garden,
since featured on the radio, local press and the gardening
website ‘Reckless
Gardener’, was the culmination of months of preparation,
read our press release here to find out more about how it
all came about.
